We strive to achieve a progressive and proactive environment to identify hazards and mitigate risk. GMS has a highly visible and transparent HSE program to continuously improve and monitor our safety performance.
At GMS we recognize that our people are our greatest and most valuable asset. We control risks inherent in our business through education and engagement, encouraging a continuous agenda of safety training and professional development to realize our ambitions. In 2009 we achieved a remarkable 43% reduction in our Lost Time Injury Frequency rate, with all our units operating a full year without any Lost Time Injuries. Our strong record on safety has been achieved while GMS simultaneously undertook a rapid expansion of its workforce and contractor involvement. These challenges were successfully overcome through our Employee Orientation Programme (EOP) and HSE Management Standards, which aligns both company and individual expectations from the outset. Our EOP reinforces our bottom up approach to safety. It ensures we empower individuals to contribute to our continued success and help establish a truly sustainable safety culture within the company.
GMS has developed Safety Cases for all of its barges which are compliant with International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) document ‘Health, Safety and Environmental Case Guidelines’ and establishes GMS’s Commitment as an operator to remain at the forefront of the safety agenda as it continuously drives to improve performance.
